HISTORY OF CURTIS MACHINE
Curtis Machine Company was started in 1946 with
a lathe, milling machine, and welder in a 20 x 30 foot building constructed
behind the Curtis home in Dodge City, Kansas. One of the first jobs Curtis
Machine Company contracted for was the manufacturing of a gearbox.
By 1950, additional machines were purchased to
perform sub-contract work for the aircraft industry. Curtis Machine Company
started to design and build gearboxes and small power transmissions. Between
1975 and 1990, seven (7) expansions and more than 100 employees were added
to the facility. Curtis Machine Company holds code classifications for
AGMA, ASAE, and SAE.
Curtis Machine Company now dedicates 67,000 square
feet exclusively to gear production, gearbox production, and machined part
production. Curtis Machine Company now produces small parallel shaft units
in spur and helical gearing, straight bevel, and spiral bevel gearboxes.
